Explanation / Answer

4. How does changing the pH affect the rate of enzyme activity? Which pH was best for catalase activity? Why?

Change in pH will affect rate of enzyme activity as too high or low pH makes enzyme denatured which makes it inactive.
7.0 pH was best for catalase activity because changing it from this pH will slow the rate of catalase activity. This happens because catalase is a enzyme and change in pH will affect rate of enzyme activity

5. How does changing the concentration of enzyme affect the rate of hydrogen peroxide decomposition?Which concentration was best for catalase activity? Why? (3 pts)

Catalase speeds up the decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide into water and oxygen. It can do this because the shape of its active site and the shape of the Hydrogen Peroxide molecule
are same. This type of reaction are called anabolic reaction.
15 drops of the enzyme is the concentration best for catalase activity.

6. How does changing the temperature of the reaction affect the rate of hydrogen peroxide decomposition? Which temperature was best for catalase activity? Why? (3 pts)

The increase in temperature increases the amount of oxygen because more kinetic energy is provided for the movement of enzyme and substrate as more enzyme-substrate complex is formed , more O2 is released.

42°C temperature was best for catalase activity

7. Why is it important that cells contain catalase? (2 pt)

Cells contain catalase as without catalase, hydrogen peroxide is formed. Hydrogen peroxide is a powerful oxidizing agent which is very toxic to cells. The presence of catalase prevents its formation.

8. List at least one researchable question concerning catalase activity (other than one you did today). (2 pts)

what is the stress tolerance of catalase?
