Explain the similarities and differences between the species ?
Explanation / Answer
Here, we can see that all the chordates from Branchiostoma(Protoichordata) to mammals show similarity in the nucleotide sequences provided. But there is more similarity in the sequences between more related groups. For egs the pisces show more similarity among themselves compared to other groups. This is in terms with the von Baer's rule which says that during embryonic development, the more general characters of a group arise first and then more specific characters arises.
All the animals given are chordates showing the basic chordate characters in somev period of their lifecycle.
Most of the examples are vertebrates,in which few are pisces and majority are from tetrapoda. In tetrapoda, there are members from amphibia, reptiles, aves and mammals. Among mammals there are members from different orders.
The members that are closest in the phylogenetic tree show maximum similarity in their nucleotide sequence. This is an evidence to common anscetry for all chordates and descent with modification.
