1) Why was it important to determine the mass of the air in the flask?

I low would your answer for the molar mass of CO_2 change if you had not carefully scraped water frost from the Dry Ice before use and water droplets too small to see remained in the flask? Explain your reasoning. How would your answer for the molar mass of CO_2 change if you had not used enough Dry Ice and the resulting gas in the flask was a mixture of air and carbon dioxide? (average molar mass of air = 28.8 g/mol)

Explanation / Answer

Solution : -

Q2) Molar mass is the mass of the 1 mole of the substance. If the mass of the air in the flask is not dtermined then the air present in the flask would add some mass to the mass of the CO2 therefore the total mass change is different than actual which lead to the incorrect result of the molar mass change of the CO2.

Q3) The average molar mass of the air is less than the molar mass of the CO2 therefore if the enough dry ice is not used then total mass change would be less which will lead to the lower molar mass change of the CO2.
