Question
What is a solvent that either bezoin OR 1,4-dibromobenzene is SOLUBLE in at room temperature. That the remaining compound becomes more soluble in when you increase the temperature (This way it will recrystallize out of solution as it cools but the other will stay dissolved and then they can be separated). Please help! Thank you!!
Background: I'm doing a recrystallization lab and have been able to seperate Benzoin and 1,4-dibromobenzene into an ether layer.(mixture: 50% benzoin, 40% 4-aminoacetophenone, 10% 1,4-dibromobenzene (dissolved in 15 mL of diethyl ether)) However, I don't know how to seperate these two neutral compounds since they have so many similar properties. I want to use solubility.
