microbiology

On July 8, a woman was given an antibiotic for presumptive sinusitis. However, her condition worsened, and she was unable to eat for 4 days because of severe pain and tightness of the jaw. On July 12, she was admitted to a hospital with severe facial spasms. She reported that on July 5 she had incurred a puncture wound at the base of her big toe;she cleaned the wound but did not seek medical attention. What caused her symptoms? Was her condition due to an infection or an intoxication? Can she transmit this condition to another person? Explain whether each of the following examples is a food infection or intoxication. What is the probable etiological agent in each case? Eighty two people who ate shrimp in Louisiana developed diarrhea, nausea, headache, and fever from 4 hours to 2 days after eating. Two people in Vermont who ate barracuda caught in Florida developed malaise, nausea, blurred vision, breathing difficulty, and numbness 3 to 6 hours after eating. Cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy are normally more susceptible to infections. However, a patient receiving an antitumor drug that inhibited cell division was resistant to Salmonella. Provide a possible mechanism for the resistance.

Explanation / Answer

1) She was treated with amoxicillin for presumptive sinusitis, but her condition worsened.

A presumptive diagnosis of tetanus was made in the emergency department and the pt was admitted in the hospital.

On this basis of her clinical presentation and tetanus vaccination history, she was given tetanus toxid,3250 1 u of tetanus immune globulin and intravenous penicillin. Her puncture wound was thoroughly debrided, several additional small pieces of wound were removed.

Although she was treated for muscle spasms, mechanical ventilation was not required .At the time of discharge 15 days later she had difficulty performing simple task such as tying shoelaces.

3) Mechanical such as DNA mutation and metabolic changes that promote drug inhibiton and degradation.Catagorised of mechanical that can enable or promote directed or indirected drug resistance in human cancer cells. These mechanical can act independently or in combination and through various signal transduction pathways.

Ex.Drug activate invivo involves complexes mechanism in which substance interact with different proteins.

These interaction can modify particles degradation or complex the drug with other molecules or proteins ultimately leading to its activation many anti cancer drug must undergo the type of metabolic activation order to acquire clinical efficacy.

2a ) Louisiana developed diarrhea ,something, fever all these because of infection .

This infection occurred due to food poisoning caused by bacteria.

While people of Louisiana due to intake of that food containing bacteria they got all of those duE to their resistance is very low
