Question

Would the Ksp be too low or too high in these situation.

1) The buret was not normalized (it still have water in it) when you add the EDTA.

2) extra solid CaSO4 was added to the flask with the saturated sample to be titrated.

3) You measured 24 mL of CaSO4 solution instead 25 mL

4) The EDTA concentration was actually lower than the reported molairty on the bottle.

These situation related to a lab am doing. Titration CaSO4 with EDTA.

Please explain why you concluded to your answer and not just state the answer, thank you. Consider the Ksp calculations when answering these questions.

Explanation / Answer

ANSWER;

1. The extra water in buret will decrease the concentration of EDTA, hence more EDTA will be consumed. Hence The sample will show higher CaSO4 concentration. (HIGHER Ksp)

1. Extra CaSO4 will not dissolve in saturated solution of CaSO4 unless temperature is changed.

3. Whwn 24mL are measured instead of 25mL the CaSO4 amount will derease, hence The Ksp

4. More EDTA will be consumed hence Ksp will be high.
