CO (g) + Cl2 (g) COC12 (g) A reaction mixture initially contains a CO concentration of 0.1450 M and a Cl2 concentration of 0.180 M at 1000 K. You may want to reference pages 667-677) section 14.8 while completing this problem Part A What is the equilibrium concentration of CO at 1000 K? Express your answer in molarity to three significant figures. Co0.172 M Submit Give UpExplanation / Answer
Solution :-
CO + Cl2 ---> COCl2
Kc= 255
mixture initially contains a CO concentration of 0.1450 M and a Cl2 concentration of 0.180
Lets make the ICE table for the reaction
CO + Cl2 ---> COCl2
0.1450 0.180 0
-x -x +x
0.1450-x 0.180-x x
Now lets write the Kc equation
Kc= [COCl2] /[CO][Cl2]
255 = [x] /[0.1450-x][0.180-x]
255 * [0.1450-x][0.180-x] = x
X= 0.1337
Now lets calculate the equilibrium concentration of the each species
[CO] eq = 0.1450-x= 0.1450 M - 0.1337 M =0.0113 M
[Cl2]eq = 0.180 M –x = 0.180 M – 0.1337 M = 0.0463 M
[COCl2]eq = x =0.1337 M
