Question 7) Following are the spectral scale readings a student obtained: Wavelength (in nm) Spectral Scale reading Color 414.4 4.2 Purple 447.1 4.4 blue 471.3 4.6 blue 504.8 5.0 green 587.5 5.9 yellow 706.5 7.0 red What is the slope for the calibration curve of this data? ( Answer in decimal form to one decimal place)
-Using the calibration curve, from question 7, what is the wavelength associated for a spectral scale reading of 5.5 for the hydrogen atom?
( Answer in decimal form to one decimal place)
- Using the calibration curve, from question 7, what is the wavelength associated for a spectral scale reading of 4.8 for the hydrogen atom?
( Answer in decimal form to one decimal place)
Explanation / Answer
Given below is the plot of line vs wavelength
a) for a reading of 5.5 of hydrogen atom, the wavlelength associated would be,
y = 54.720x + 330.41
y = 54.720 x 5.5 + 330.41
= 631.4 nm
b) for a reading for 4.8 of hydrogen atom
wavelength associated would be,
y = 54.72 x 4.8 + 330.41
= 593.0 nm
