Question
There are directions in the Procedure, which if not followed as written, would introduce errors. Consider the deviations below, and comment on how a student's results would be affected, A student allowed all the water in the beaker to boil away, but continued the experiment Another student was in a hurry and stopped heating, even though bubbles were still emerging from the rubber tubing A student used the measure of Flask no. 1 to be 250 mL, without measuring the volume as directed A student recorded the temperature in degrees Celsius and used these values in the calculationsExplanation / Answer
a) the boiling will evaporate water constinously therefore the volume of the solution will decrease so all
calucluations where volume is to be used will give erroneous results
b) The dissolved gases will remain in the solution so the correct volume is not known
it can give side reaction if the dissolved gas is reacting with the solute
c) without measuring the volume, means you do not know the actual volume, so the concentration terms will be wrong so all inetrepretation will be affected
d) Temperature should be used in Kelvin, so agagin its a source of error.
