Natural selection is a process which causes populations of living things to change over time. It is so easy and can be broken down into five basic steps variation, inheritance, Selection, time and adaptation. Natural selection is based on the concept that all populations contained members with variable traits that could be inherited ( descent with modification). The environment puts pressure on those variations, allowing those with the best adapted variations survive to pass those traits on to the next generation.
In natural populations natural selection , gene flow, and mutation combine to change allele frequencies across generations.
Those individual organisms who happen to be best suitable to an environment survive and reproduce most successfully, producing many similarly well-adapted offsprings.
Charles Darwin set out his theory of evolution by natural selection as an explanation for adaptation and speciation. Individuals best adapted to their environments are more likely to survive and reproduce. As long as there is some variation between them and that variation is heritable to the next generations. If the variations are heritable, then degree of difference reproductive success leads to a progressive evolution of particular populations of a species, and populations that evolve to be suitably different eventually become different species.
