Question

When you stroke the plantar surface of an adult human foot, a normal reflex will result in (use medical terms) ______ The "positive Babinski Reflex" is an abnormal response that he occurs when you stroke the plantar surface of the foot and seen in infants a in those with poor axonal myelination. What occurs in the positive Babinski Reflex? ______ The blind spot of an eye is caused by ______ In a darkened room, describe what happens to the left pupil's diameter as you flash light in the left eye and then remove the light. ______ Simultaneously in the above situation (45), what happens to the right pupil's diameter? ________ and 48. Describe the monosynaptic "stretch" reflex (e.g., stretch, receptor apparatus, synapse(s), output etc.) to a "tap" of the patellar ligament. _____________

Explanation / Answer

Answer:

1) When you stroke the plantar surface of an adult human foot, a normal reflex will result in plantar flexion of the toes that results in them being drawn together

2) The positive Babinski Reflex is an abnormal response that occurs when you stroke the plantar surface of the foot and is seen in infants and in those with poor axonal myelination. What occurs in the positive Babinski reflex? - Big toe bends up and back to the top of the foot and the other toe fans out

3) The blind spot of an eye is caused by lack of receptors (rods or cones)

4 &5 ) In a darkened room, describe what happens to the left pupils diameter as you flash light in the left eye and then remove light

Simulatneously what happens to right pupil's diameter?

The pupils usually dilate or expand in the dark so as to allow more light to enter the eye. So when when a person enters a dark room the pupil will expand first. The normal pupil size increase from ~2-4mm (size variability range) diameter to ~4-8mm (size variability range) diameter in dark conditions. When we shine a flash light on the eye, the pupil will contract and become smaller. It usually takes more time for pupils to dilate vs. their contraction (when subjected to bright light). Even if we put the light in one eye (either right or left), the pupil in both eyes will contract.

6) Describe the monsynaptic”stretch” reflex to a “tap” of the patellar ligament
