The genotype for the F- strain (CSH125) that you will be using is StrrLeu-His-Arg-Ade-Trp-TetS. If you wanted to grow this strain on an agar plate, which of the following nutrients must you include? (ie, which are essential for survival?) *MORE THAN 1 MAY APPLY*
Streptomycin (Str)
Leucine
Adenine
Histidine
Arginine
Tryptophan
Tetracycline (Tet)
None of these are essential
So from the lab manual I thought it would be all but STR since HFR is sensetive to it, but I'm not sure. Can someone explain how they can answer this?
Streptomycin (Str)
Leucine
Adenine
Histidine
Arginine
Tryptophan
Tetracycline (Tet)
None of these are essential
Explanation / Answer
as you describe the genotype of CSH125 is- StrrLeu-His-Arg-Ade-Trp-Tets .
this indicate that this strain is Streptomycin resistant, lacks Leucine, Histidine, Arginine, Adenine, Tryptophan. and it is sensitive to tetracycline antibiotic.
so if we want to grow this strain than we have to include Leucine, Histidine, Arginine, Adenine and tryptophan amino acid in agar plate. alos it is resistant to Streptomycin antibiotic so we can include it. but it is sensitive to tetracycline antibiotic so it will not grow if it contain that antibiotic.
so answer is all except tetracycline antibiotic.
