There are two species of lemon sharks, the Atlantic lemon shark, Negaprion brevirostris, and the sicklefin lemon shark, Negaprion acutidens. Lemon sharks take 12-15 years to mature, have a gestation period of 1 year, and have a life span of about 25 years. Female lemon sharks give live birth to their pups and can have between 4-20 pups every other year. Once born, the newborn lemon sharks stay in shallow, well-protected nurseries until they grow large enough to

Explanation / Answer

Ans.1.a) Lemon sharks have Type I survivorship curve.
1.b) Both the fishes are used as commercial farming. But when there is a comparison, the lemon shark is listed as near threatened by the IUCN Red List. So it would be better to conserve them and promote rockfish production as it is more sustainable commercially.
1.c) Rockfish have a biphasic life history in which pelagic larvae spend 1-2 months in the water column which is pursued by benthic habitat that shift over ontogeny. Whereas lemon sharks have no pelagic larvae. They have gestation period of about 10-12 months to develop their young one, after which they give birth to a litter of 4-20 live pups.
