Question
This is Ru3(Co)12 and I need help figuring out the electron count of it. I found a source that says it is 48electrons... but no matter how I count, I'm not getting that number. I know that every CO offers up 2electrons and is a neutral ligand. I just am not sure how to count the electrons between each of the Ru atoms.

I know that every CO offers up 2electrons and is a neutral ligand. I just am not sure how to count the electrons between each of the Ru atoms.Explanation / Answer
Every CO offers 2 electrons.
Number of CO = 12
Total number of electrons from CO = 2*12 = 24
Ruthenium ( atomic number: 44) has electronic configuration of [Kr] 4d7 5s1.
Here number of valence electon is 8
Number of Ru=3
So,Total number of electrons from Ru = 3*8 = 24
Total number = 24+24 = 48
