Synthesis of Aspirin: Compare melting points with a literature value. My melting points for the crude aspirin was 128.6-135 deg C, the commercial aspirin MP was 129.5-184.5 deg C, and the Re-cyrstallized aspirin was 128.8 -135.7 deg C. Are the values close to the literature values? If your range on either your crude or recrystallized aspirin was greater than 2-3 degrees, explain what could be responsible for the broad range. How does the value of commercial aspirin compare to the literature values? Explain any differemces.

Explanation / Answer

The melting points of Aspirin for commercial and the one prepared are close to lierature value. The value for commercial aspirin should be 129.5-134.5 and not 129.5-184.5 oC as written above (a typo error)
