Question
I don't feel like this should be a hard question, but I'm not sure how to handle the ketone group in a ring. How do I count the electrons for that? I know Huckel's rule, so I and II are out (right?). If I am right, how do I decide between 3 and 4? Thanks!
I think I figured it out and it's actually #1 that's aromatic. Boron has an empty orbital that contributes to the p-system without contributing electrons, therefore it's the only one that meets Huckel's rule. The ketone group doesn't contribute electrons, but that leaves 3 & 4 as antiaromatic.
Which one of the following compound is aromatic? hone of the ollowing compound is aromatic? le 0 3CHaExplanation / Answer
I is aromatic.
1. It is cyclic
2. It is conjugated
3. It follows huckel rule (4n + 2) rule
