Question

Calculate the following quantities: The mass in amu of 280 strontium atoms The mass in grams of 280 atoms of strontium The number of moles of strontium atoms in 28.0 g of strontium The number of strontium atoms in 28.0 g of strontium Suppose you have a sample of zinc nitrate weighing 12.87 grams. What mass of silver chloride would you need to have the same number of molecules in each sample? Calculate the mass in grams of the following samples. 1.94 moles of cadmium 0.887 moles of aluminum oxide 0.075 moles titanium(IV) nitrate 1.13 moles phosphorus pentachloride

Explanation / Answer

a. atomicmass of strontium = 87.62 u

mass = 280*87.62 = 24533.6 u

b. mass = 24533.6*1.66053886*10^(-24) = 4.074*10^-20 grams

c. No of mol of Sr = 28/87.62 = 0.32 mol

d. No of atoms = 0.32*6.023*10^23

           = 1.92736*10^23 atoms

2.

No of mol of Zn(NO3)2 = 12.87/189.36 = 0.068 mol

No of mol of Agcl = 0.068 mol

mass of AgCl required = 0.068*143.32 = 9.75 grams

3. mass = 1.94*112.411   = 218.1 grams

mass = 0.887*101.96 = 90.44 grams

mass = 0.075*295.8866 = 22.2 grams

mass pcl5 = 1.13*208.24 = 235.31 grams
