Question
Refer to Infographic 22.3. What is different with the enhanced greenhouse effect, and what are the main causes of it? Select one: a. Life on Earth depends on the ability of greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and others) in the atmosphere to trap heat and warm the planet. b. More greenhouse gases, however, mean more trapped heat and a warmer planet (an enhanced greenhouse effect). c. Carbon dioxide is the main driver of the enhanced greenhouse effect. d. The main anthropogenic sources are fossil fuel combustion and deforestation. e. All of the above.Explanation / Answer
Amswe : E (All of the above)
Greehouse effect is the phenomenon in which the earths atmoshphere gases trap some of the suns radiations. These gases abosrb the radiations and cause warmness, which is important for the human survival. Beacuse if there is no global warming the ice forms on every water body and the temperatures will be low for survival of life.
At the same time if the green house gases in the atmosphere increases they trap more radiation and reflects more heat , which is more than threshold limit. This is called as "global warming".This might cause the ice to melt in the polar regions, which inturn disturbs the water balance in oceans and might drown the land. Hence ehanced green house effect is dangerous to mankind.
The green house gases are Carbondioxide, Methane, Ozone, Water vapour. Of them the amount of carbondioxide and methane are rapidly increasing due to industrilization, automobiles, forest fires, ie., excessive burning of fossil fuels. Hence man is contributing more to the global warming.
Measures should be taken to prevent global warming by planting tress, reducing the use of fossil fules and encourage biofules which release less carbondioxide, reduction of use of automobiles etc.
