Question
The Suzuki reaction is a carbon-carbon bond forming reaction between boronic acids(R-B(OH)2) and halides (R’-X; where X = Cl, Br, or I) that is typically catalyzed by a palladium source. What is the theoretical yield of compound V, in grams, when 2.5 g of iodide III are allowed to react with 2.0 g of boronic acid IV? Please carry maximum number of significant figures through to final answer then round to one decimal place. Please show steps so I can figure out how to do it! Thank you!
l+MeO B(OH)2 IV Pd(dba)2 (catalyst) Cs2C03 (base) MeOH (solvent), room temperature, 12 h OMe Figure 1Explanation / Answer
first find out the both the reactent moles
moles of iodo compound = 2.5 g / 228.032 g/mol = 0.01096 mol
moles of boronic acid = 2.0 g / 151.96 g/mol = 0.01316 mol
out of these two iodo compound is the limiting agent boronic acid is the excess reagent
we have to calculate the yield according to the limiting agent
from the reaction one mole of product required on emole of iodo compound and one mole of boronic acid
sonce limiting agent iodocompound
no of moles of product formed = moles of iodocompound = 0.01096 mol
mass of the product = moles of product x molar mass of the product
= 0.01096 mol x 208.26 g/mol
= 2.2825 grams
= 2.3 grams
