Need help answering this question
A photometer with a linear response to radiation gave a reading of 575 mV with a blank in the light path and 149 mV when the blank was replaced by an absorbing solution. Calculate a. the transmittance and absorbance of the absorbing solution. Transmittance = Absorbance = b. the expected transmittance if the concentration of absorber is one half that of the original solution. Transmittance = c. the transmittance to be expected if the light path through the original solution is doubled. Transmittance =Explanation / Answer
a) transmittance = P/Po = 149/575 = 0.259
absorbance = log10 (Po/P) = 0.586
b) absorbance is halved here
=> New absorbance is 0.293
=> log (1/T) = 0.293
=> 1/T = 1.963
=> New transmittance = 0.509
c) absorbance is doubled here
=> New absorbance is 1.172
=> log (1/T) = 1.172
=> 1/T = 14.859
=> New transmittance = 0.067
