1.There are some organisms would be able to survive the nutrient enriched situation like where starch, casein and lipid while having no hydrolysis molecules. The microorganisms can still be using the other sources of carbon for their growth and reproduction. There could be some nutrients present apart from regular sources of sugar and lipid.
2.This type of media is known as ‘Differential media’, specifically the ‘Nutrient gelatin medium’. Where there could organism to test to see what type of enzyme it produces. Here we are talking about the enzymes named as ‘Gelatinase’.
3. The cells in case of starch hydrolysis positive usually gets the enzyme called amylase, here they also have to take the available sources present in a media. Starch being a sugar and carbohydrate, for cells it is easy to break and use it for energy.
4. If a bacteria is getting ‘casein’ as a source of food in the presence of the other substrates like gelatin and starch, it still chooses the starch. As starch is the carbohydrate and can be easily broken down for their energy sources.
5. For lipid hydrolysis it has to secrete ‘lipase' but there is a problem. When an organisms have access to other sources, it will not choose the source as a complex but rather than it would choose a common and easy nutrient source.
6. Bacteria cannot take up the polymers as they are not having the respective enzymes to breakdown the substances.
