please help!
A 1.0 mL solution containing unknown benzene is mixed with 5.0 mL of 10.0 mM toluene and diluted to 50.0 mL. Upon chromatographic separation of the mixed sample, a peak area of 27000 was measured for benzene and a peak area of 16000 was measure for toluene . A separate solution was prepared containing 1.0 mM of benzene and 0.5 mM of toluene . Upon chromatographic separation of this sample peak areas of 13000 and 10000 were measured for benzene and toluene , respectively. What is the concentration of benzene in the original unknown solution?
Explanation / Answer
Benzene and Toluene are mixed in a ratio of 1:5, by volume and concentarion(mM) as well.
Benzene 1mL with 2.0 mM , where as Toluene 5 ml with 10.0 mM
So, is the concentration of benzene in the original unknown solution is 2.0 mM.
Hope this helps you!
