Question

Suppose that the preparation of the stock solution of borax, the solid borax reagent is contaminated with a water soluble substance that does not react w HCL and does not have an ion in common with borax. How will this contamination affect the calculated solubility product of borax? Suppose that the preparation of the stock solution of borax, the solid borax reagent is contaminated with a water soluble substance that does not react w HCL and does not have an ion in common with borax. How will this contamination affect the calculated solubility product of borax?

Explanation / Answer

This is definitely going to effect the solubility of the borax. As another water soluble compound is present so it will decrease the solubility. As now less number of water molecule is present to form cage ( solvolysis) around borax so less it will be soluble. Now here we assuming that that solute and borax does not form any interaction in water.
