The mass of the sphere is 35.70 g. Find the density of the metal sphere in grams per cubic centimeter. A liquid sample was determined to have a density of 0.824 g/mL. What is the volume of the liquid if the mass is 18.95g? A sample containing 23.89 g of metal pellets is poured into a graduating cylinder initially containing 15.9 mL of water, causing the water level in the cylinder to rise to 23.6 mL. Calculate the density of the metal.Explanation / Answer
(1) Volume (V) = 20.6 mL
mass (m) = 35.70 g
=> density = m / V = 35.70 / 20.6
=> density = 1.73 g/mL
(2) Density = 0.824 g/mL
mass = 18.95 g
=> volume = mass/density = 18.95 / 0.824
=> volume = 23.0 mL
(3) mass = 23.89 g
volume = 23.6 - 15.9 = 7.7 mL
=> density = m/V = 23.89 / 7.7
=> density = 3.10 g/mL
