Question

after reading this lab report about flour beetles grwth, please do the following:

1. determain if the studen't hypothesis was supported or falsified

2. . disscus why the student had these particular results.

abstract

We obtained 3 glass vials. In one vial, we added 2 grams of whole wheat flour and 4 beetles. In the second vial, we added 6 grams of whole wheat flour with 5 beetles. In the last vial, we added 15 grams of whole wheat flour and five beetles. All vials were stoppered with cotton and were placed in an incubator at a constant temperature in complete darkness by the professor. If the amount of food resources is less than ideal, then the population of the flour beetles will also decrease because of the lack of available material needed to survive. Beetles were observed through the semester.

On the first day of the semester, May 15, three glass vials were obtained.

On the second week, May 22, all 5 beetles in the 15g vial completely disappeared even though it was stoppered with 2 cottons! Hence, no further observations were noticed in this vial. In addition, no particular change in the beetles’ number, growth, reproduction, or behavior were noticed in the other 2 vials, 2g and 6g vials, until the 6th week, June 19. Every other week adults and larvae were counted.

Explanation / Answer

Answer:

The student made the hypothesis by doing this experiment is satisfied except in the last observation which is about the 15g of wheat floor because as on may 22 beetels in the vial got diappeared but as they are stopperes with double cotton so this should not be possible this observation according to me is falsified but the first two observations are truely satisfied because the beetels are small insects which can surviev on the wheat floor also they just need entry in the container which is not tightly packed and can surviev on that floor and after some day they will make the larve of their in that container which goes on increasing .
