please solve the hilighted Questions
In Activity 1, what happened to the pH of the water sample as 0.1 M HCl was added? How did this compare to what happened with addition of one drop of 0.1 M HCl to each buffer solution? In Activity 1, why did the pH of the buffer solutions change after the addition of 10 drops of 0.1 M NaOH? NaOH is strong base when its added to the solution, its react with the weak acid, so that cause the PH of the buffer solution change. In Activity 2, which concentration was the effective buffer? Explain what happened chemically as the buffer became more dilute.Explanation / Answer
Ans- when we add HCl to water it's pH starts to increase with addition of HCl. In addition of HCl with buffer there will be no change up to a limited level. Above that level the pH will start to increase.
Ans-3-the effective pka value at 20 degree for most of buffer Is 6.15 -8.3 .
You haven't mentioned the buffer so m writing pka of various buffers
MES- 6.15
PIPES- 6.8
SDP- 7.21
HEPES- 7.55
TRIS- 8.3
If buffer is more diluted it will be less effective.
