Question 1.

The concentration of rare-earth metal ions in water and soil should be controlled regularly. The sum of rare-earth metals in the samples can be determined spectrophotometrically using the arsenazo III dye.

Question 3.

The main water quality parameters to be monitored are phosphrus, nitrates, pesticides, biological oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand and concentration of suspended particles.

Phosphorus will come to water from domestic detergents, nitrates and pesticides - from agricultural fields. Biological oxygen demand and chemical oxygen demand are integral characterisitcs of water purity, they will be strongly affected by the anthropogenic factor.
