Question
Hello I really need help with these BIO-1 questions. Could you guys please answer all of the multiple choice questions. I know it seems like a lot but i would highly appreciate it becuase i really need help on them. Thank you guys! I truly appreciate it.
1. The reactions of Glycolysis takes place in the cytosol of every living cell: A. True B. False which of the following processes to perform cellular work: A. Endergonic reaction such as biosynthesis B. Transporting an ion against its concentration gradient C. Movement of cargo on cytoskeleton D. All of the above E. None of the above 2. The hydrolysis of ATP is exergonic and this reaction may be coupled to 3. Which of the following electron carrier molecules are in their reduced stat A. both NAD+ and FADH2 B. both NADH and FADH2 C. both NAD and FAD D. both NADH and FAD E. None of the above For a reversible reaction at equilibrium, the net free energy content of system of the reactant and product molecules has reached minimum and the system is most stable. 4. A. True B. False 5. A free energy diagram is shown below: 0-O G-O Teansition slate Progress of the reaction The reaction AB+CD AC + BD A. is endergonic because AGExplanation / Answer
1. True
Explanation: Glycolysis is the metabolic pathway that converts glucose into pyruvate through ten intermediate steps. This glycolysis takes place in every living cell to obtain energy in form of ATP and NADH. This is divided into two types, they are aerobic glycolysis and anaerobic glycolysis depending on oxygen conditions. This anaerobic glycolysis occurs in the RBC which lack mitochondria.
2. All of the above
Explanation: a.Endergonic reactions such as biosynthetis requires energy so this coupled with ATP hydrolysis gets the required amount of energy from hydrolysis.
B. Ion transport against concentration gradient requires more amount of energy so this is obtained by hydrolysis of ATP.
C.movement of cargo on cytoskeleton occurs via ATP hydrolysis through carrier transport. This requires energy for transport. So this is also depends on ATP energy.
3.In cellular respiration NAD+ and FAD are the electron carries which are in oxidised form. These carriers accept electrons and reduced to NADH and FADH2.These reduced electrons carriers are involved in energy production through ATPase synthese channel.
4.True
For a reversible reaction at equilibrium the net production of reactants and products are at same rate, there will be always energy content in the reaction but net energy change is minimum and reaction becomes stable and present in the equilibrium.
5.exergonic reaction as the net free energy is negative
In this Gibbs free energy change depends on enthalpy and entropy of the system. Above diagram shows energy status of the reactants is higher than the products. Thus the net Gibbs free energy is negative which is spontaneous and makes it exergonic reaction.
