Question

The following data was collected during a calorimetric run. Graph the data, and answer the questions below. (Have answers in THREE significant figures). Link to chart: http://gyazo.com/72090984a6cb50e4f2e91c0aff00bfd7

a) What is the final temperature based on the calorimetric run? (in degrees Celsius) *NOTE: 40.2 IS NOT THE ANSWER!!

b) If the total mass of the solution was 35.5 g and the heat capacity of the solution is the same as water (4.1801 J/gC), what is the value of q for the run? (in Joules) NOTE: I do know that you have 35.5*4.1801*20.5 = 3042.067, HOWEVER--I SOMEHOW NEED THREE SIG FIGS.

c) What is the value of q for the reaction? (in Joules) NOTE: (I know the answer is negative) Sorry for all caps, but I cant stress enough..The program I'm writing the answers in is VERY picky. Please show all work. Thank you!

Explanation / Answer

The final temperature is 44.7 deg.c

b) from Q= mcpdeltaT= 35.5*4.18*(40.2-19.7) = 3042. 67 Joules

c) since theres is temperature rise during the course of reaction, the reaction is exothermic and hence Q= -3042.67 joules
