Explanation / Answer

first find the concentration

concentration no of moles / volume in liters

[SO3] = 0.96 mol / 2 L

= 0.48M

[O2] = 0.16 mol / 2L

= 0.08M

construct the ICE table

2SO3 <====> 2SO2 + O2

I 0.48 0 0

C -2x +2x +x

E 0.48-2x +2x +x

but he has given equilibrium concentration

[O2] = 0.08 = x

use this x value find the equilibrium concentrations of SO3 and SO2

[SO3] = 0.48-2x = 0.48 - 2(0.08) = 0.48 - 0.16 = 0.32 M

[SO2] = 2x = 2x0.08 = 0.16 M

now we have all the equilibrium concentration values plug in the above equation

Kc = [SO2]2 [O2] / [SO3]2

Kc =  [0.16]2 [0.08] / [0.32]2

Kc = 0.002048/ 0.1024

Kc = 0.02 or

Kc = 2 x 10-2
