Question
A 295-mL flask contains pure helium at a pressure of 753 torr A second flask with a volume of 485 mL contains pure argon at a pressure of717 torr the two flasks are connected through a stopcock and the stopcock is opened, what is the partial pressure of helium? PHe torr Submit My Answers Give Up Part B lf the two flasks are connected through a stopcock and the stopcock is opened, what is the partial pressure ofargon? PAr torr Submit My Answers Give Up Part C lf the two flasks are connected through a stopcock and the stopcock is opened, what is the total pressure? Ptotal torr Submit My Answers Give UpExplanation / Answer
Solution :-
After connectic the two flask the total volume is sum of both volumes
Total volumes = 295 ml + 485 ml
= 780 ml
Calculating the partial pressure of the Helium
Partial pressure of He = P1 V1 / V2
= 753 torr * 295 ml / 780 ml
= 285 torr
= 717 torr * 485 ml / 780 ml
= 446 torr
b) Total pressure after connectic two flask is the sum of partial pressure of both gases
c)Total pressure = 285 torr + 446 torr
= 731 torr
