Question

What is the effect of doubling the substrate concentrations on the rate of catalyzed reaction? (f) The production of ATP in metabolic pathway for every acetyl CoA can be calculated. (i) How many ATP molecules are produced by the complete oxidation of one molecule of glucose. (ii) How many ATP molecules produced for one acetyl CoA catabolized?. (a) The structural formula of a section of protein is shown below: (i) Explain why protein cannot perform its biological function at very high temperature.

Explanation / Answer

f) (i) Net gain of ATP during oxidation of glucose is 34. Actually 36 ATP molecules are produced during oxidation of glucose but 2 are used up in glycolysis.

(ii) 12 ATP molecules are produced from one molecule of Acetyl CoA. ( molecules are produced from reduction of NADH and 2 from reduction of FADH and one by phosphorylation making a total of 12.
