Am i right? I need help with the matrix and states of matter Date due:3 Date due: _al2ale Name: Stephone Kaim Double Displacement Reactions Pre-lab Questions: questionS Read the relevant textbook sections and the entire lab before answering pre-lab a Complete and balance each double displacement reaction (include states). b. Determine whether each reaction will produce a precipitate (ppt), a gas (gas), heat (heat), or if there 1. For the three solutions 0.1 M Ba(OH)h. 1 M NaCOs, and 2 M HCI. will be no observable reaction (nr), and write the correct abbreviation in the prediction matrix below. LaA Prediction Matrix: HCI hea Na- CO Ba(OH)2 3NaCO a.s Assume that each of the three solutions, 0.1 M Ba(OH).1 M Na COs. and 2 M HCI, is placed in a separate bottle labeled either A, B, or C. Based on the results observed for the reactions, determine which solution is in which bottle. heat gas Ppt Nat COS
Explanation / Answer
Q.1: Q.1 is correct and no correction required.
Q.2: Q.2 is wrong. In each bottle there should be only one solution i.e either 0.1M Ba(OH)2, or 1M Na2CO3 or 2M HCl. We can find it out by comparing the prediction metrix filled in Q.1. We can find the following result while comparing.
bottle A + bottle B ------ > Heat
bottle A + bottle C ------ > Gas
bottle C + bottle B ------ > ppt.
If we compare the above reactions with the reactions given in Q.1 we get
bottle A = 2M HCl (answer)
bottle B = 0.1M Ba(OH)2 (answer)
bottle C = 1M Na2CO3 (answer)
Q.3: The following corrections are required.
(b): 3Na2CO3(aq) + 2 K3PO4(aq) ------ > 3 Na3PO4(aq) + 2K2CO3(aq) (nr)
Since all of the reactants and products are aqueous, this is a no reaction (nr).
(d): 3Mg(NO3)2(aq) + 2K3PO4(aq) ------- > Mg3(PO4)2(s) + 6KNO3(aq)
(f): Na2CO3(aq) + H2SO4(aq) ------- > CO2(g) + H2O(l) + Na2SO4(aq)
(g): 2NaOH(aq) + H2SO4(aq) ------- > Na2SO4(aq) + 2H2O(l)
(h): Mg(NO3)2(aq) + H2SO4(aq) ------- > MgSO4(aq) + 2NHO3(aq) (no reaction - nr)
(i) SrCl2(aq) + H2SO4(aq) ------- > SrSO4(s) + 2HCl(aq)
In the rest of the reactions write the phase of NaCl as NaCl(aq)
SrCl2(aq) + Mg(NO3)2 ------- > MgCl2(aq) + Sr(NO3)2(aq) (no reaction - nr)
