Question

You weigh three samples of the same metal, and find their masses to be 30.86 g, 41.34 g, and 35.70 g. The corresponding volumes are 3.4 mL, 4.9 mL, and 4.0 mL. What is the density, d, of the metal? I just need g/cm^3 answer.

u weigh three samples of the same metal, and find their masses to be 30.86 g, 41.34 g, and 35.70 g rne corresponding volumes are 3.4 mL, 4.9 mL, and 4.0 mL What is the density, d, of the metal? Number Number d = | | 8.81 g/ cm Tools x 10 Given this table of metal densities, whi ing metals could the sample be? metald (g/cm*) aluminum 2.70 ron cobalt copper 8.96 gold aluminum 7.87 8.90 ron cobalt copper gold 19.3

Explanation / Answer

Density = mass/volume. we know volume 1ml=1cm3

meassurement-1 =30.86/3.4=9.07g/cc

meassurement-2 =41.34/4.9=8.436g/cc

meassurement-3 =35.7/4=8.925g/cc

average density=8.81g/cc

there fore average density is close to density cobalt and copper so the metals may be Co or Cu.but the two meassurments are very close to copper.so metal may be copper.
