Question
What volume of solvent in mal is needed to prepare a 20 M solution of a substance when we only have 0.20 moles 1. 2. An experiment alls for 75 ml ofa 0.75M aqueous solution of sodtum bicarbonate. What mass in grams of sodium bicarbonate is needed? 3. Write the conversion factors for each of the following concentrations. a) 9.0 %(m/V) ethanol in water b) 2.8 M glucose in water c) 3.0 mEq ./100 dL d) 42 mg/mL lactic acid A 0.90 %(m/v) solution ofsodium chloride is isotonic with red blood cells. a) Is a O.90M solution of sodium chloride hypotonic, isotonic, or hypertonic? Convert the 4. o.90M sodium chloride solution concentration into Km/V) to support your answer. b) What would happen to a red blood cell immersed in a 0.90M sodum chloride solution- nothing, crenation, hemolysis/Explanation / Answer
1. Molarity= No.of moles/ Volume of solution in litres.
Given, no. of moles= 0.2, Molarity= 2M
Hence Volume= 0.1 L= 100mL.
2. No. of moles= Given mass/ Molar mass.
Volume= 75 mL= 0.075 L, Molarity=0.75 M, Molar mass of NaHCO3= 84 g/mol
Now using the equation for molarity, Mass taken = Molar mass* Volume* Molarity
Mass of NaHCO3= 4.725 g.
