Question
The bromination of trans-stibene using NaBr-KBrO3 as reagent gave us a product with melting point range of 90 to 160dregrees. My theory is that the product is starting material becouse they never reacted. My profesor wants me to prove why is starting material, like come up with a theory. Please help. The bromination of trans-stibene using NaBr-KBrO3 as reagent gave us a product with melting point range of 90 to 160dregrees. My theory is that the product is starting material becouse they never reacted. My profesor wants me to prove why is starting material, like come up with a theory. Please help.Explanation / Answer
reaction is
BrO3- + 5 Br- + 6 H+ ..........> 3 Br2 + 3 H2O
This reaction occurs in acidic medium.
But you have only NaBr-KBrO3.
so In absence of H+, Br2 is not produced.
trans stilbene react with this reagent when Br2 gas produced from reagent mixture.
Hence product is starting material because they never reacted.
