Test-3 Introductory Chemistry-1411-101 Try to answer only five questions OI- What are the definition of molecular compound, chemical reaction, and acid-base reaction? Q2- Determine the number of moles of oxygen in 1.345 g of H:SO.? 03- Write the empirical formula when, zinc (50.1 g) oxidized (49.9g)? Q4-Find the mass of carbon when the total mass of the compound (CioH120) 66.4g? Q5-Write the chemical equation for a combustion reaction? 06-How many moles of NaCl formed in the reaction below, when 5.44 mole of Cl2 reacted with Na? Try to calculate the mass?

Explanation / Answer

Q1): A molecular compound can be defined as a compound where the atoms share electrons through covalent bonds. It is also known as a covalent compound. The covalent bonds are what hold the molecule together. When atoms share electrons, they are able to have a full outer electron shell.

chemical reaction is a  chemical change that occurs when two or more substances combine to form a new substance.

acid base reaction is a type of chemical process typified by the exchange of one or more hydrogen ions, H+, between species that may be neutral (molecules, such as water, H2O; or acetic acid, CH3CO2H) or electrically charged (ions, such as ammonium, NH4+; hydroxide, OH?; or carbonate, CO32?)..

Q2)

First, you must determine the number of moles of the compound. This will enable you to find how many moles of the particular element would be present, and you can convert this to mass.

Moles of H2SO4 (molar mass = 98.1 g):

1.345g:?98.1gmol=0.014 mol

In each molecule of H2SO4 there are 4 oxygen atoms, so 0.014 mol of H2SO4 would contain 0.014×4=0.055 mol of O atoms.

Since each mol of O atoms has a mass of 16.0 g, the total mass of oxygen would be

0.055×16.0gmol=0.88g

Q4) Atomic mass of C: 12.01 g/mol

mass contribution of C=10 molecules of C*12.01=120.1 g/mol

atomic mass of hydrogen:1.008

mass contribution of H=12 molecules of H *1.008=12.096  g/mol

atomic mass of oxygen:16

mass contribution of O=1 mole of oxygen *16=16  g/mol

total molecular mass=120.01+12.096+16=148.106 g/mol

mass of carbon=mass contribution of C/molecular mass of C10H12O

=120.01/148.106

=0.811 g/mol

Q5)The combustion of methane is represented by the equation:

CH4 + 2O2 ? CO2 + 2H2O

Q6)2Na+Cl2->2NaCl
