Question
Need help with the second part please.
? f hydrocarbons such as decane (C10H22) produces carbon dioxide, a "greenhouse gas." Greenhous Combu the gases in the Earth's atmosphere can trap e Sun's heat, raising the average temperature of the Earth. For this reason there has been a great deal of international discussion about whether to regulate the production of carbon dioxide. 1. Write a balanced chemical equation, including physical state symbols, for the combustion of liquid decane into gaseous carbon dioxide and gaseous water x 10 2C 10H220) + 02()20CO () + 22H20 (8) 2. Suppose 0.390 kg of decane are burned in air at a pressure of exactly 1 atm and a temperature of 18.0 °C. Calculate the volume of carbon dioxide gas that is produced. Be sure your answer has the correct number of significant digitsExplanation / Answer
1. 2C10H22(l) + 31O2(g) --------> 20CO2(g) + 22H2O(g)
2. Mass of decane = 0.39Kg = 390g
Moles of decane = given mass/molar mass
= 390/142 =>2.75 moles
by the balanced chemical question,
2 moles of decane gives--------> 20 moles of CO2
So, 2.75 moles of decane gives----> 20×2.75/2
=> 27.5 moles of CO2
Now using Ideal gas equation,
PV =nRT
1× V = 27.5×0.0821×(273+18)
V = 657 L
