Question
A Carnot engine operates between temperatures of 1000oK and 300oK. The engine operates at 2000rpm and develops 200kW. The total engine displacement is such that the mean effective pressure is 300kPa. Determine (a) the cycle efficiency; (b) the heat supplied (kW); (c) the total engine displacement (m3). A Carnot engine operates between temperatures of 1000oK and 300oK. Determine (a) the cycle efficiency; (b) the heat supplied (kW); (c) the total engine displacement (m3).Explanation / Answer
Solution:
We know cycle efficiency for carnot engine is,
n = 1 - T1/T2
= 1 - 1000/3000
= 1 - 0.33
= 0.67
Efficiency is 67.77 %
b) We know Heat supllied,
Q = W/n
W work done and is given 200 KW
Q = 200/0.67
Q = 298.5 KW
C) Total engine displacement
