Question
PLEASE! I NEED help with this question in the next 4-5 hours. EVERY single time I've been asking for help, I've been getting help LITERALLY at least 12-13 hours AFTER I had posted (basically it's too late because I had to turn in the assignment). This is a post lab question for the lab Electrogravimetric Determination of Copper:
Metals can be electrodeposited at different potentials. Suggest a detailed scheme to separate (not just quantify) a mixture containing copper(II), zinc, and lead(II) into its elemental components, and determine the amount of each present, using gravimetry. (Hint: which one is easiest to reduce?)
Explanation / Answer
Zn2+ + 2 e Zn(s) 0.7618
Pb2+ + 2 e Pb(s) 0.126
Cu2+ + 2 e Cu(s) +0.337
the easiest to reduce --> Copper, then Lead, finally Zinc
that is the order, since the Epotential shows you how easily a speicie is going to be reduced comapred to other
very negative E values will be "hard" to reduce
