Peanuts have high content of proteins in it. The test for proteins is by reaction with Biuret reagent. This is a color test and a positive test confirms the presence of protein in the sample.

Carbohydrate hydrolysis : hydrolysis of carbohydrates results into glucose and fructose units. Both of these monoscaccarides are reducing sugars and they can be tested by adding Benedict's reagent to the reaction products after hydrolysis reaction has taken place. A positive test confirms the formation of glucose and fructose in the reaction and hydrolysis complete.

Saturated and unsaturated fatty acids : saturated fatty acids are linear chain fatty acids having nu deficiency of hydrogen in it. The structure is uniform and thus these have very high melting points and are solids at room temperature. On the other hand, unsaturated fatty acids have carbn chain with deficiency of hydrogen in it. The structure is not uniform and thus these have low melting point existing as liquds at room temperature.

Unsaturated fatty acids would show addition reactions which are not shown by the saturated fatty acids. Say for example addiiton of Br2 onto the unsaturated fatty acid double bonds gives a positive test as,

R-CH2=CH2-COOH + Br ---> R-CH(Br)-CH(Br)-COOH

This type of reaction is not possible with a saturated fatty acid moeity.

Peanuts can be tested for the presence of proetins by adding Biuret reagent to it. A color change from pink to purple after the addition of the reagent confirms the presence of proteins in the sample.
