(Religious Studies)In the Linda Gibler interview, Micheal Dowd poses the question: "If you could affect just one change in how the liturgies of the Catholic mass are conducted, what would that be? Linda answers:................... "to include Earth and the Earth community in every celebration, so that we become as aware of the suffering planet as we are of suffering humans." She goes on to say that in Catholic liturgies there is always mention of the poor, the hungry, and human suffering, but she would find a way to include mention and prayers for the suffering of all species - not just the human species. What is your response to Linda's answer to Micheal's question. Should we be bringing more attention and reverence for nature into our Christian forms of worship. Is Gibler going too far with this idea? Should our churches just continue to focus on Jesus? Is branching out to include awareness of our "suffering planet" a way of worshiping Jesus? Might it make a difference in the way people of faith (any faith) live their lives? Might it influence the way we think about and interact with the natural world? Linda spoke about Catholic liturgy. If you aren't Catholic, look at your own faith (or secular) tradition, and answer the question looking at the forms of worship from the tradition to which you belong. So the question is, no matter where you worship or how you pray, should the earth community be included in our prayer services so that we become more aware of the suffering of all species and not just the suffering of the human species, as Gibler states.

Yes I do agree with the point that earth community should be included in our prayer services. The theme of Earth community is to protect environment, for which we all as humans must appreciate and support. I personally accept Linda's point of view about including earth community in catholic mass. And well to be honest Jesus is GOD for everyone I repeat every living thing on earth, as everything is his creation. So in near future we can expect not only catholic Churches, every church will pray for suffering of all species and also maintain some funds separately for earth community. Actually it's our responsibility to save and protect physical as well as natural environment..
