Question

List the Eons of geologic time summarizing the major events and time period of each

List the Eras of the most recent Eon (specific), list the periods of each and list the major events ( fossils , evolution of specific forms of life,   change position of continents/supercontinents, climate etc.--- Choose 10 fossils or form of life which evolved including Archean and Proterzoic, and then representative fossils for later eras and/or periods , give Phyla of each and major characteristics of that phyla and Kingdom to which it belongs (and characteristics which put it in that phyla)

Explanation / Answer

The largest defined unit of time is the supereon, composed of eons. Eons are divided into eras which are in turn divided into periods, epochs and ages. The terms "eonothem", "erathem","system","series" and "stages" are used to refer to the layers of rock that correspond to these periods of geologic time in Earth's history.

. There were two types of global earth climates: icehouse and greenhouse. Icehouse is characterized by frequent continental glaciations and severe desert environments. The greenhouse is characterized by warm climates. Both reflect the supercontinent cycle. It is now a short greenhouse phase of an icehouse world

Hadean Eon

During Hadean eon time the solar system was forming, probably within a large cloud of gas and dust around the sun, called an accretion disc from

Archean Eon

The Earth of early Archean may have had a different tectonic style. During this time, the Earth's crust cooled enough that rocks and continental plates began to form. This may have prevented colonization and continent formation until the mantle cooled and convection slowed down.

Proterozoic Eon

The geologic record of the Proterozoic is more complete than that for the preceding Archean, many of these rocks are less metamorphosed than Archean-age ones, and plenty is unaltered.

Phanerozoic Eon

The  Phanerozoic Eon is the current eon in the geologic timescale. During this period continents drifted about, eventually collected into a single landmass known as Pangea and then split up into the current continental landmasses.

Evolution occurred most during this time period.

Ordovician Period

During the Ordovician, the southern continents were collected into a single continent called Gondwana as the period progressed, drifted toward the South Pole.

Mesozoic Era

After the vigorous convergent plate mountain-building of the late Paleozoic, Pangaea gradually split into a northern continent, Laurasia, and a southern continent, Gondwana.

Phyla of each Period and major characteristics of the phyla and kingdom are as follows

Phylum Porifera

No Tissues or Organ systems

1. Contain a few specialized cells

Phylum Cnidaria

1. Soft bodied

Phylum Echinodermata

1. spiny skeleton

Phylum Annelida

1. Body divided into segments that are separated by septa

Phylum Arthropoda

1. Joint Appendages-Greater mobility and locomotion

Phylum Platyhelminthes

1.unsegmented

Phylum Mollusca

1. soft bodied

Phylum Chordata

1.Notochord -dorsal, hollow, nerve cord

Phylum Nematoda

1.Slender, unsegmented, tapering ends
