Question
A certain colorless solution has a pH of2.3. If we add phenolphthalein indicator to this solution, what will be the color of the resulting solution Now, suppose we add an base drop-wise to the solution from what will we observe as we continue to add the base? The pH of a certain solution is 60. What color would the indicators methyl violet, methyl orange, and phenolphthalein be in this solution? Methyl violet Methyl orange Phenolphthalein Methyl violet is violet in a given solution Methyl orange is red in the same solution What is the approximate pH of the solution? Briefly explain.Explanation / Answer
3(a)
i) The solution will remain colourless as in acidic condition phenolphthalein is colourless.
ii) As we start the addition of the base after a certain time when the pH of solution crosses 8.2 the solution becomes pink and after pH > 12 the solution again become colourless
b) Methyl violet - blue
methyl orange = orange
phenolphthalein - colourless
c) the solution is acidic and having pH less than 3.1 and the pH must be near 2.00
