Question

Need help with part B dont really know how to create cross sections dont understand the method what will the cross section look like?

B)Draw a cross-section along A-A’ using the above data and projecting onto the line.

4)An east-west line of section in the Rusty Ridge Quadrangle cuts across a folded sequence of Carboniferous strata. A portion of this line ofsection is shown below. In order to draw a cross section along this line, it is necessary to determine the apparent dip in the direction ofthe line of section and project these apparent dips onto your cross section. a) Calculate the apparent dip in the line of section for each measurement as stations w, x, y, and z b Draw a cross-section along A-A using the above data and projecting onto the line. Explanation / Answer

East west line of the section in Rusty Ridge Quadrangle cuts across a folded sequence of carboniferous strata.

The corresponding cross sectional dips must be identified.

The dip in w=(60-0)=60

The dip in x=(60-45)=15

The dip in y=(45-30)=15

The dip in z=(45-30)=15

Now the steps to draw the cross section from A-A' are as follows:-

From the starting point,a straight line is drawn till the point w were 60 is marked. Upto this point a straight line is constructed.

Then from 60 as the dip is 15,a slight bend is made till x which is marked as 45.

Then from 45,as again the dip is 15,a slight curve is made to reach the point y which is marked as 30.

From y the dip is 15 and a slight upward raising curve is drawn as the next point is 45 were the dip is positive.

From z,again a straight line is drawn to reach the end.
