Questions Page of 12 1. Which of the two methods for determining the Ksp value gives the least percent error between the from table) and determined AG values? 2. Would you expect this dissolution of ammonium nitrate to be spontaneous over all temperatures? so explain why and if not determine for what temperature ranges the dissolution of ammonium nitrate would not be spontaneous. If you can determine a temperature range for non-spontaneous dissolution of ammonium nitrate do you think this could be observed experimentally?Explanation / Answer
1. Ksp calculated using values in table is more accurate than the Ksp value calculated using experimentally determined delta G value. Because in experiment there is chance to more errors. Values in table are standard values so we get least percent error in method which is used values from table.
2) Dissolution of ammonium nitrate is spontaneous at room temperature, because this process has negative delta G.
Delta G = Delta H - T deltas
This process has positive deltaH and positive deltaS.
This process is spontaneous above the temperature T, where T delta S is greater than delta H.
