The two layers in mantle are lithosphere and asthenosphere.
The crust and part of the upper mantle together is called lithosphere. It is a brittle layer. It ranges in thickness from 100 to 140 kilometres. Lithosphere is divided into several plates.
The semi viscous layer beneath the lithosphere is called asthenosphere. It is also called as low velocity zone.
The lithospheric plates will float on the asthenosphere
