Question

Practice Home Work 1-Chapter 10 Assignment 1 ± Effects of Changing Temperature on Volume and Pressure 5 of5 Vinal = 302L Constants Periodic Table The ideal gas law (PV = nRT) describes the relationship among pressure P, volume V, temperature T, and molar amount n Correct When the amount of gas and the pressure are fixed, the volume is directly proportional to the temperature in kelvins. When the temperature increases, the gas expands. When the gas is cooled, its volume decreases. Part C A balloon was filled to a volume of 2.30 L when the temperature was 30.0° C. What would the volume become if the temperature dropped to 11.0 C. Express your answer with the appropriate units. View Available Hint(s) I Value Units Submit

Explanation / Answer

Ans Part C :

According to the ideal gas law , pV = nRT , the temperature is related to volume as :

V1 T2 = V2 T1

V1 = 2.30 L

T1 = 30oC or 303.15 K

T2 = 11oC = 284.15 K

so putting all the values we get :

2.30 x 284.15 = V2 x 303.15

V2 = 2.15 L
