Chemistry Chapter 14 Homework-Internet Explorer pter 14 Homework ation Acid-Base Titration 3018 ( Part B A volume of 100 mL of 1 00 M HCI solution is titrated with 1 00 M NaOH solution You added the following quantities of 1.00 M NaO point, at the equivalence point, or after the equivalence point to the reaction flask Classily the folkowing condtions based on whether they are before the equvalence Drag the appropriate items to their respective bins View Available Hint(s) Reset Help 150mL of 100MNa 500 mL of 1 00 M NaOH D0mL of 1 00 M NaOH 200 mL of 1 00 M Na· 500mL of 1 00 MNO 100 mL of 00 M NOH At equivalence point After equivalence point Before equivaience point 4:59 PExplanation / Answer
You have 100 ml of 1 M HCl and you want to titrate this using 1 M of NaOH
the reaction is HCl+NaOH ==== NaCl + H2O
as you can see you need 1 mole of HCl to neutralize 1 mole of NaOH
since both solutions are 1 M then we need the same amount of militers to reach equivalence point so
1 ml of HCl will neutralize 1 ml of NaOH
so equivalence point
100 ml of HCl require 100 ml of NaOH
Equivalence point 100 ml of 1 M NaOH
Everything that has a volume lower than 100 is considered to be "before equivalence point"
50 ml of 1 M naoh
5 ml of 1 M naoh
10 ml of 1 M naoh
Everything that has a volume higher than 100 ml is considered to be "after the equivalence point" (At this point all the HCl is gone, you have NaOH in the flask)
150 ml of 1 M naoh
200 ml of 1 M naoh
Remember that equivalence point can only be 1
When you havent neutralized all the acid you will be at the "before equivalent point" region
When have neutralized all the acid and you have NaOH unreacted you will be at the "after equivalence point" region
