Question

This is question has multiple parts to it. If the person answering can verify if I am doing this right that would awesome! Thanks in advance :) .The part that I have my main question about is in bold.

Name a non metal oxide. ( Acidic oxide ). Either one of CO2 or SO3, N2O5, P4O10

What acid does the non metal make when mixed with water ? H2CO3

( If I used CO2 )

What is the equation. CO2 + H2O = H2CO3

So the acid would be H2CO3. IS this correct?

What is the salt that will be formed between an alkali metal and the acid? ** MAIN part I have a question about

The way the question is worded, I can pick my own Alkali metal Oxide????

If I picked Na2O ( its a metal Alkali Oxide ) then the equation would be —-

Na2O + H2CO3 = Na2CO3 + H2O

The salt formed then would be Na2CO3 . Is this correct?

Explanation / Answer

The part till acid formed is H2CO3 is correct.

But the main question asks for reaction between a alkali metal (not metal oxide) and the acid.

If you choose the metal to be Na metal then the reaction would be: 2Na + H2CO3---------->Na2CO3 + H2

H2 gas is released in the reaction and the salt formed is Na2CO3.

Comment in case of any doubt.
